Four renowned sagas about Icelandic poets (or skalds) - "Bjarnar Saga", "Gunnlaugs Saga", "Hallfredar Saga", and "Korm ks Saga" - provide the focus for this book. Discussion centers on the verses included in these sagas; the special characteristics of skalds; medieval and modern interpretations of the sagas; their affiliation with other Scandinavian and European literature; and their place in evolving social constructions of gender and love relationships.
