Culture, knowledge and understanding are always a fundamental part of any exhibition. This exhibition, sponsored by the Vicariate and the Rome Municipality, goes much further. This is another opportunity for Rome to honor and express its affection and gratitude towards John Paul II, a Pope who was so important for the citizens of Rome and our entire community. His was a long, incomparable papacy that for more than twenty-six years was a journey of spiritual affinity, a combination of high points and everyday life. The photographs, mementos, documents and quotes from his writings and speeches published in this book illustrate and define the Pope's relationship with the city of Rome. It was afterall, John Paul II who noted that "Roma, spelled backward is Amor (love)." A play on words that had, however, incredible meaning. It was his love for Rome; the love that Rome still feels for Pope John Paul II. Written in Italian and English.
