Although co-ordination chemistry naturally centers around the synthesis of co-ordination compounds, the synthesis of these materials is typically not an end in itself. Co-ordination compounds are utilized in all branches of chemistry, from theoretical modelling to industrial and consumer products. While a large amount of information is available on co-ordination chemistry in general and synthetic methods in particular, new comprehensive works have been presented on the preparation of co-ordination compounds with an emphasis on modern solution chemistry. Indeed, synthetic co-ordination chemistry has largely developed in two separate areas, divided by the old "iron curtain", and the literature of each has been relatively inaccessible to the other. This text brings together these two bodies of information in a comprehensive manner.
