Antonio Micallef (1867-1940) was born on the tiny island of Gozo and grew up in Malta's capital city, Valletta, when music, opera and drama had reached the height of popularity. The Story of a Maltese Musician reveals the struggle, the sorrow and the joy in the life of this musician whose ideology influenced and dictated the course of his career. Against all odds, he mastered the piano, the violin, and the cantabile trombone and went on to become an accomplished composer, a bandmaster, and a music tutor with academies and band club schools both at home and abroad. His passion for music manifests itself in his pursuit of excellence and the kind and generous way with which he sought opportunity, not only for himself, but also for his students and young aspiring musicians.
