"Siri, who is the daughter of the Viking village Chieftain, Torkel is back in her second adventure. This time her royal friend Zack who we meet in the first book, ‘Siri the Viking: The Emperor’s Treasure‘, comes for a visit.
Siri takes Zack to the markets where they come across Ivar the Terrible and his accomplice Grim who are trying to sell some books that they had stolen but the original owner is there and takes the books from the thieves. Inquisitive Siri wants to know about the books. Upon opening the books they find a letter about Mimir’s Well, the place where Odin went to get all the knowledge of the world.
Siri, Zack, and the owner of the books decide to go looking for the well, but Ivar and Grim are not far behind. Does the well really exist and who will find it first if it does?
I really enjoyed the first book in the Siri the Viking series and couldn’t wait to start this one. Siri is only eleven-years-old but she is very clever. She reads a lot of books and has a great wealth of knowledge that she uses every day. As well as clever she is brave and heroic too. She proves just how powerful books can be!
These books are not only filled with great adventure stories, they are educational too. From the information about the characters at the beginning to real-life characters within the plot, and factual information at the end. These books have certainly taught me a thing or two about Viking times and also this book taught me information about Odin that I never knew (my knowledge of Odin stops at the Avengers movies).
I love the way the book has been written in comic book style – I never thought comic books were for me, but these books have changed my mind. I love the illustrations and the humour that runs throughout these stories, they made me giggle quite a few times.
These books are perfect for educating children about the Viking’s without them even realising they are learning as they are so enjoyable and keep you reading. Plus, at only 86 pages long they can be read in one sitting.
Overall, another fabulous Siri adventure. I now can’t wait for more to come out as I just love her story so much."

"Did somebody mention Vikings?
When I was invited to review Siri the Viking: The Emperor’s Treasure and Mimir’s Well, comic books about a young Viking girl, I jumped at the chance. Firstly, I’m obsessed with anything related to the Viking Age, and secondly, it’s a comic book!
It’s years since I’ve read a graphic novel, and this experience hurled me back in time to lazy days and snuggling up with my comics.
Within the opening frames I was reminded how wonderfully enjoyable comic books are. The illustrations are gorgeous and detailed. The story is one of strength, courage, and lots of humour. I chuckled at some of the scenes which were made all the more humourous by the complementary pictures.
There’s plenty of historical fiction, but children (and adults) will also love engaging with the story of friendship, finding solutions, standing up for yourself, and good vs evil.
The educational sections at the back of each book give the reader historical facts about elements of the story such as Traveling Traders, Viking graffiti (seriously!), and runes.
I would say these comic books are aimed at the 8+ age range. I’m WAY above the target audience, but I loved every moment of being in Siri’s world.
If you’re looking for a gorgeous gift for a child who loves comics, funny stories, and history, then I can highly recommend Siri the Viking.
*I received copies of The Emperor’s Treasure and Mimir’s Well, which I was happy to review and share my honest opinion."
"Siri, the smart and feisty daughter of a Viking chieftain returns for another comic book adventure with her friend Zack who's nearly, but not quite, as smart and feisty as Siri herself. This time, they are on the trail of lost treasure. They need all their wits to make sense of clues leading them to the mysterious Mimir's Well and to foil the efforts of villainous Ivar and his sidekick, Grim, to get there first. There's excitement, humour and fun as the plot gallops along in classic comic book style.
Unlike Siri's first adventure (The Emperor's Treasure) Mimir's well is set in Scandinavia rather than Miklasgard (Byzantium). But, once again, it's underpinned by accurate detail in the illustrations and in a short information section at the back. In this episode, we are introduced to the Medieval monk, Ansgar, the trading port of Birka and a quick guide to runes - enough, at least, to enable readers to write their own coded messages. It wears its learning pretty lightly, but I love the fact that it's not dumbed down either.
If I were teaching the Vikings, I would definitely want this series to be available to my class to read for fun. However, even though I don't teach the Vikings at the moment, I still want it on my bookshelf. I'll be lending it to children who enjoy graphic novels and comics. I'll also be lending it to children who enjoy adventure stories. And I'm hoping that it will provide a way into historical novels for others. In fact, I can see I'll be lending it out a lot!
